HiClara — AI-Powered Building Sustainability Platform

The building sector faces mounting regulatory pressure: CSRD reporting obligations, energy legislation, and investors' ESG requirements demand reliable sustainability data. Yet the necessary information is scattered across energy certificates, consumption statements, HVAC documentation, and spreadsheets grown over years — rarely consolidated, never searchable.

Portfolio owners and managers need weeks to produce a consistent sustainability report for a single portfolio. The domain knowledge sits in PDFs nobody reads. That is exactly where HiClara comes in.

We conceived and built HiClara end-to-end as a multi-tenant SaaS platform: a high-performance Rust backend (Axum) with PostgreSQL, a Next.js frontend, and a data pipeline that normalizes heterogeneous sources — from energy certificate PDFs to consumption CSVs — and consolidates them per building.

At its core is Clara, the RAG-based assistant: documents are chunked, embedded, and indexed in Qdrant. Clara answers domain questions — about retrofit options or regulatory thresholds, for example — with source citations drawn directly from the portfolio's own documents instead of hallucinating.

Sustainability reports are generated automatically: the platform aggregates consumption and master data, computes metrics such as energy intensity and CO₂ emissions, and produces structured, ready-to-send reports.

Twelve weeks passed from first concept to a working MVP. The platform indexes over 10,000 document pages, answers domain questions in seconds with traceable sources, and cuts report creation from days to minutes.
